I started to draw when I was really young and my first formal drawing training was given to me by my cousin Angel. He was an artist in the same caliber as the late John Buccema, he interview with Marvel Comics back in the 70's but it was really hard on those days to get in the business. Well like all of us I wanted to pursue a career as an artist but life had other plans for me and so in order to help my familiy back home in P.R. I joined the US Army and stay until retirement. I did drew here and there while in service but it was only when bored or basically at times when I had a bit of free time. Then I had times when I did not drew at all for years, which has hurt my abilities and styling, and everytime I start again is like learning all over again. I started to draw again here and there plus my oldest son also draws and he encourages me to continue to draw and finally I joined DA about 4 years ago. Now I'm trying to maintain some sort of consistancy but it's always challange to draw consistantly. Anyway that is it about me.

Personal Quote: Do what make you feel good!
I just learned yesterday that my cousin Angel, who was in essence my first art teacher has just past away this past Saturday.  He lived most of his childhood and teen years in NYC until 1971 when my aunt moved back to Puerto Rico, because my grandma was sick and my aunt and Mom were taking care of her. So once they moved in, my cousin Angel had his room setup like a studio and I remember seen this file cabinets full of comics! Marvel, DC and any other independent comic that was out back then!  He had then in alphabetical order and by number, plus divided by company, it was like going to a library and checking out books.  He had his art reference books or actual props for swords, guns or other stuff and to me was a treat to go and visit!  The one thing I will always remember is when after showing me how to do the basics sketching, he drew on a page the Hulk with his back to the viewer, his arms up to the sides with fists on the ready! Above him and on front of him was Thor swinging his hammer ready to go at it!

So he completes the quick drawing and tells me, "I want you to draw this, until is just like this. I will come and check on your progress."   I drew that picture, I don't know how many times and Thor always gave me trouble! If it was not his legs being to big, it was his head or helmet or the freaking wings on the helmet.  I mean, there were countless pages that I remember ripping off and trying again and again!  Until the one day that when I checked and compared my drawing with my cousin's original, and they looked almost the same!  That was my "Eureka" moment, and I was so proud of myself and when he saw it and I got his approval I knew I was on my way!

Amgel, thank you for teaching me and being in my life not only as my cousin but also friend, brother and always my art teacher. I will always remember you and all of the good times we had, may you rest in peace and God have you in his glory!

Your cousin, brother, friend and student.
